What is a Dehor?
By dehors we mean the set of movable elements, which can be dismantled or easily removed, placed in a harmonious and functional way on the public space which, together, constitute the outdoor dining area of a public establishment. Especially the permanent outdoor areas, which can be used throughout the year, can represent important sources of additional business for the premises. This is particularly important in some cases: first of all, when it is necessary to expand the surface of the room, but the costs or the physical boundaries of the rooms do not allow it. The permanent outdoor area can also become the concrete solution to offer smokers a space that can be used all year round in compliance with the law on smoking in public places.

Verifications and documentation
Before thinking about how to create an outdoor area, it is advisable to make some checks. It is essential to evaluate whether the available space is sufficient to create a truly usable space. The minimum dimensions indispensable for an outdoor area are established by municipal legislation. First of all, you must submit the application for the concession, to be addressed to the Manager of the Sector or to the Director of the District of your Municipality, who will issue or not the concession for the occupation of public land. This typically lasts 5 years from the date of issue.
The application must be accompanied by extensive documentation which must include, inter alia, floor plans, technical reports, illustrative brochures of elements and furnishings, photographic documentation of the building and its surroundings, written consent of the owner or operator, any clearance from the Superintendency for Architectural Heritage, in the case of listed buildings. The terms for issuing the concession, from the submission of the application, are 45 days.
A “valuable” advice: relying on a service company or at least a technician able to draw up the documentation and follow the procedures costs a little but saves you time and effort.
